The Band was founded in 2001 by Djôy Abu-Raya, Paulinho (former Ferro Gaita), Helder Dias (Stone), and many temporary musicians who gave their precious contribution from its early days.
Refilon maintains from it’s beginning, vocalist and guitarist Djôy Abu-Raya, Danilo Silva and Rui Alves, who develop their own music styles basing on the typical “mazurca” from the island of Stº Antão and the drums of “São João” festivities, so typical throughout the islands of Cape Verde, but in a particular way from the island of S.Vicente, home to most of the Band players.
One of the main aspirations of this project, is to contribute with one more brick to the foundation of the modern Cape Verde music, which settles in a platform created by all those, whose talent and sensitivity gave and still give, new colors to the Cape Verdean musical panorama.
